Get to know David Gilbert

Lot 353

David Gilbert and  his late wife, Judy Lee, began painting together in 1963.  Based in the DC Area, they exhibited their work in regional galleries, including Hallway Gallery in Georgetown and Ring Hall of the Washington Hebrew Congregation, and their work often graced the cover of “Galleries” the Guide to Washington Art Galleries.

David Gilbert is also well known in the DC region for his work as a hand painted greeting card artist.  The husband and wife artistic team often stood side by side, each contributing to a single canvas or at times one completing what the other began.  They achieved their original abstract forms by staining, pouring, spraying and brushing paint and metallic powder.
