Feast your eyes on this breathtaking Russian cloisonné enamel dish. With its intricate design and fabulous bright colors, this dish will stop you in your tracks. Cloisonné is an ancient method for decorating metalwork objects. The decoration is formed by first adding compartments (cloisons in French) to the metal object by soldering or adhering silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. The artisans who worked in cloisonné were considered jewelers in late Imperial Russia. This dish is marked Feodor Rückert, a Fabergé workmaster from Moscow (1896-1903). Sitting center stage is a Siren- the mythical bird of paradise, surrounded by alternating motifs of jewel toned peacocks and multi-colored flowers. With silver gilt scalloped edges leading to more beautiful flowers, this dish is simply over-the-top opulence.
