Modernism 1920 – 1945
Contemporary 1945 – 1960
While Alex Cooper is a name synonymous with high quality traditional and period furniture, we also offer a wide variety of modern and contemporary pieces. Whether you are looking for a sleek Knoll Saarinen dining table or a statement making Isamu Noguchi glass top coffee table, Alex Cooper has the item to help you transform any room into a stunning space.
One of the interesting features of modern and contemporary furniture is the theory behind the design. Modern design stressed the materials and methods of construction, unlike the fashions of previous generations that referenced historical styles. Similarly, Contemporary furniture focused on bold designs and practical solutions to the needs of daily life.
These design theories are beautifully represented in Le Corbusier’s LC4 Chaise Lounge, which is offered in our upcoming June 18th auction (Lot 1538). The Swiss architect and designer Le Corbusier worked with fellow designers Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, to design this piece between 1927 and 1928. Le Corbuiser was efficient with his design, as the undulating recliner follows the shape of a reclining body, but it is also made with luxurious materials and offers absolute comfort.
Modern and contemporary furniture pieces, therefore, are not only beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, but also extremely functional and practical. Alex Cooper is proud to offer a variety of iconic modern and contemporary furniture pieces from bookcases, dining tables, sofas and settees to lounge and office chairs, coffee tables and lighting fixtures in our Gallery Auctions. Make sure to keep Alex Cooper in mind when looking for your next modern or contemporary pieces of furniture.
