The Discovery Sale which closes on May 1, 2024, will include a rare and interesting selection of film memorabilia, comprising lots 5800 through 5874.
The collector had a deep appreciation for the comic actors of the Silent Film and Golden eras, including Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, and Fatty Arbuckle. Accordingly, he amassed an amazing array of ephemera, promotional stills from movies, lobby cards, and posters. Many of the items in the collection were produced just for the moment – candy and tobacco packaging, vending machine cards, or promotional hand-outs at the theatres. The vast majority were thrown away at the time, yet the few that survive are fascinating. The graphics are nostalgic and often compelling. They evoke a classic period in our cultural history.
