Alex Cooper proudly presents the Estate of Philip S. Dubey, as a part of the June 27th, 2020 Gallery Auction. From his sprawling antique store on Howard Street, Phil Dubey commanded an “Antique Empire.” His self named shop and “Antique Row Stalls” was a multi-dealer consignment shop that dominated the Tri-State antiques and high end collectibles market. He became an institution for Chinese Export and Asian porcelain collectors, seeking his wares and most importantly his knowledge and expertise.

Philip S. Dubey was born October 9, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, the third son of an insurance broker and a homemaker. He attended Calvert Hall College High School and University of Maryland, after graduation settling into Human Resources management at Mars supermarket chain. All the while collecting and studying antiques, especially Chinese Export and Asian porcelain. Finally at age 44 he left Mars to open an antique store at 807 N. Howard Street and expand into two other buildings, including the “Stalls.”

Phil would amass a world class collection and formidable intellect, coupled with a wicked sense of humor. His knowledge and guidance would influence a whole new generation of collectors. Including this writer, whom he would set on a career path. Alex Cooper is pleased to offer Dubey’s collection as a part of our June 27th Gallery Auction.
