Valuation
An Alex Cooper Auctioneers representative will provide you with an idea of your items market value and salability at our auction house. Our knowledgeable appraisers have both the experience and tools at their disposal to properly evaluate your valuables.
There are several ways in which to obtain a pre-sale evaluation: Before an item can be submitted for sale at our auction house, please complete and submit the presale evaluation request form. Following the submission, an Alex Cooper specialist will contact and guide you through the evaluation and auction process. Or feel free to make an appointment with a specialist and bring your item into the gallery, located at 908 York Road., Towson, MD 21204.
Submit My ItemConsignment
Before consigning at Alex Cooper Auctioneers, our representative will provide you with detailed consignment terms along with a formal consignment contract for your review so you fully understand and feel comfortable with the auction house process.
When you are ready to sell, we are ready to make sure your item is a sought after item on auction day. Prior to the day of the auction, a multi-day exhibition is open to the public, allowing maximum exposure of your item or items. We also provide professional cataloguing and extensive marketing to expose your items to the largest possible venue. Alex Cooper’s advertising campaign includes local and national publications, direct mail, and extensive internet exposure.
Payment
After the auction, you will be paid by check, along with a full detailed accounting of each lot’s sale price and itemized charges approximately three weeks after the auction. If applicable, an accounting of unsold items will be sent approximately one week post-auction. You, the consignor, are responsible for arranging removal of unsold property or contacting our gallery to discuss other means of handling your property.

Career highlights or something you like about your job:
I love the variety of art that I am able to research and auction. Every day brings something new and exciting. I also love bringing an artist to auction that Alex Cooper has not had before. I like helping people become excited about art and to be life long collectors.
Personal Info Including Education:
Holds a BA in Art History from Vanderbilt Univesity, is a USPAP appraiser, a Trustee of the Maryland Art Place, and an adjunct professor at Towson Univeristy in the Art History Department. Kathleen is married to a photographer, has two grown children, and an ever expanding art collection.

Role and Responsibilities :
Director of Silver and Decorative Art / Generalist Appraiser, Certified Member, Appraisers Association of America. I meet with individual consignors, as well as personal representatives for estates. I am responsible for generating and securing new business across all departments. My expertise as a generalist allows me to view entire collections and estates and provide fair market values. Additionally, I research and catalogue objects including silver as well as vintage fashion and accessories. I am proud to represent Alex Cooper Auctioneers in Washington, DC.
Career highlights or something you like about your job:
I enjoy the variety of objects and artwork associated with my job. It's very stimulating work. I meet really interesting people and I get to look around the most beautiful and unusual homes in the mid-Atlantic region, from Virginia to New York. I have snooped around the drawers and closets of some fascinating people, all with permission! I believe that every object and collection tells the story of its owner(s) and I love telling that story.
Personal Info Including Education:
I am a Texas native. My parents are retired teachers, as well as artists and collectors. They instilled in me a sense of curiosity, love of learning, and a quest for adventure. I lived in France after college and speak fluent French. I lecture on the auction market for the art law classes at The George Washington University Law School and American University Washington College of Law, both located in Washington, DC. I am a published author and lecturer on the topic of women's fashion. I guest curated the fashion exhibit "Inside Out: An Exploration of Women's Status and Roles in American Society as Reflected in Fashion from Foundation to Silhouette." I graduated from Baylor University with a BA in French and Art History in 1990 and I acquired a Diploma in Fine and Decorative Art, Renaissance to Modernism, from Christie's Education, London in 2003.
